There is no better way to enjoy a beautiful weekend morning (or afternoon) in Chicago than to grab Brunch. The list of reasons to love this mealtime combination of breakfast and lunch is long but includes:
1) You can drink (sometimes unlimited) bloody mary's or mimosas and no one will judge you
2) You can eat breakfast food OR lunch food OR both!
3) You can have sweet or savory… or again BOTH
4) You can eat breakfast late in the day as you nurse your hangover form the night before
5) You can meet up with friends and gossip about the work week as you drink more… and more… and more….
So yea, obviously brunch is amazing. When I came across a deal for German style brunch, I was intrigued enough to purchase it. The deal was for $30 off brunch at the restaurant Prost! (meaning ‘Cheers!' in German) located in Lincoln Park, Chicago. I had never been to a German restaurant, despite having some German heritage in my family roots, and dragged my boyfriend out to try it one sunny weekend morning.
The interior of the restaurant was designed to look like a German beer hall and sported long wooden tables and benches, which apparently are imported. A path made of cobblestones led through the middle of the hall to the bar that serves an impressive 24 specialty imported German draft beers. Because it was such a gorgeous day, we chose to eat outside in their small, front sidewalk area.
The brunch menu included authentic German fare, such as potato pancakes and weisswurst; we both went with the ‘Egg Sand(v)ich' (get it? -vich? lol) which was a German style breakfast sandwich with special potatoes on the side. It was delicious! We also got several mimosas (duh) to help wash everything down.
Overall, my German brunch was filling and delicious. I will definitely return in the near future to catch a game and enjoy some of their draft beer and try some more authentic German food.
Prost!
