Dining Elegantly at Cité

My mother raised me as a lover of all things French, so when I saw a deal for the elegant French restaurant Cité, I knew I had to snag it. The restaurant is known first and foremost for the amazing views of Chicago and Lake Michigan that can be seen from it’s spot at the top of Lake Point Towers. I anxiously awaited a special occasion in order to redeem my coupon, and the chance finally came on my boyfriend’s birthday. What better way to make his day unforgettable than a delicious dinner with lovely views of his beloved hometown?

Journey to the Top

We arrived at the tower and took an old fashioned elevator up to the top floor where we were greeted warmly by the staff. Once seated at our secluded table, I was immediately taken aback by the view of Chicago at night. We could see north up Lake Shore Drive, and the city lights twinkling along the shoreline made the moment magical.

The Food

While the view was spectacular, the food was also delicious! Before we received our meal, our waiter brought us escargot, compliments of the chef. Neither I nor my boyfriend had ever tried snails before, but we both bravely took a bite (Mommy, are you so proud?). To my surprise they were actually pretty good! Before our entrees, we also received complimentary peach sherbet to cleanse our palettes – one of the best parts of the meal all night!

Finally it was time for the main event: I ordered scallops, while my boyfriend opted for orange glazed duck and we shared a side of lobster mac and cheese. I rarely make scallops at home, so I enjoyed every bite of my meal, and the few bites I had of the duck left me almost wishing I had ordered it for myself!

For dessert, we split a chocolate macchiato: chocolate mousse with salted caramel, sweet milk foam, and espresso gelato. The chef also garnished it with a candle and chocolate ‘Happy Birthday’ sign – perfect!

I can confidently say that from the food, to the view, to the service, this is one birthday my boyfriend will never forget.
