Eden Cottages is named after the famed Garden of Eden and certainly lives up to its name. Located in a quite corner of Gili Trawagnan, this small hotel with just 6 cottages and amazing staff will make you feel like you are home and not just visiting.
The Room
I booked one of the 5 standard cottages available at Eden Cottages (there is also one deluxe cottage). My room was clean, comfortable, and provided a great place to unwind at the end of the day. The bathroom was spacious, although it only had cold water (not a problem for me after a hot day at the beach or exploring!). The room was simply decorated and looked out on the pool located in the center of the complex. Each room at Eden Cottages comes with the following:
- private bathroom (cold water, deluxe cottage has hot water)
- air conditioner
- safety deposit box
- TV
- DVD Player (with DVD library)
- private terrace
- daily breakfast included
The Location
The great thing about Eden Cottages was its proximity to everything while still remaining secluded and quiet. Its location on the northern side of the island meant it was far enough away from the bars to relax and get sleep but still a short bike ride away from the action.
The beach is a five minute walk away with many restaurants and bars within walking distance. The hotel is also not far from spectacular sunset views (which you can watch from the Western or Northern side of the island).
The Facilities
Eden Cottages has a pool for guests to use that is located in the center of the complex. Right next to it is a kitchen area where you can have your complementary breakfast if you choose not to eat on your private terrace. There is a fridge with drinks that guests can help themselves too – just simply write on the white board next to it what you take and it is added to your final bill at check out (a great concept that I loved!). In this same area are board games and books for guests to enjoy. The hotel also has a bamboo cabana in the garden full of pillows and a hammock that is perfect spot to lounge or just nap. Eden Cottages offer bike rentals as well. Bikes cost 40,000 IDR per day and come with a bike lock.
*One note: Eden Cottages does NOT have wifi. This isn't a huge problem, since most of the restaurants on the north road provide free wifi. The owner explained that Eden Cottages is meant to be a retreat, and part of truly relaxing is to get a break from technology. I had no problem not having wifi at night or during the day if I was lounging poolside. It was easy enough to find places close by that provided it if I desperately felt I needed it.
Final Verdict
I can't recommend Eden Cottages enough to those looking for a lush garden haven on Gili T. The room was more than comfortable, and the service impeccable. I truly felt like I was being welcomed home rather than just a hotel guest. The owner and her staff will go out of their way to make sure you have a memorable experience on the island. Make sure to check out this little piece of heaven on your trip to Gili T!
