There is something magical about seeing your food cooked right in front of you. One of the more entertaining ways to do so is at a hibachi grill, a japanese cuisine restaurant that uses an iron griddle to cook food in front of diners. I have enjoyed several of these interactive meals and, when I found a deal for one near Chicago, I decided to introduce my boyfriend to the experience.

The restaurant sponsoring the deal was Todoroki, located in downtown Evanston just north of Chicago. Specializing in hibachi and sushi, the restaurant features All-You-Can-Eat deals for lunch and dinner as well.
Our deal allowed us $40 toward a meal, so we both ordered a hibachi chicken dinner (which included a salad, soup, grilled vegetables, fried rice, and shrimp) and an appetizer of spring rolls to split.
Each hibachi table had seats for seven people, so my boyfriend and I sat with another family for our meal. We enjoyed the salad and soup while we anxiously awaited our cook. Finally the big moment arrived!
Our cook began by juggling the utensils before using sake to light up the grill in a blaze of fire. As adult diners, we also got the added bonus of having sake poured straight into our mouths across the table. The rest of the cooking process was equally as entertaining and interactive – when the veggies hit the grill, we each got the chance to try and catch broccoli in our mouths. I missed the first time, but was successful on my second attempt!
All of the food was incredibly delicious from start to finish. Even if the food had not been tasty, the experience itself made the deal worth it. Being able to watch everything cook in front of us and getting the added show made this meal one that was extra special.
The Deal:
I Spent: $40 $20
I Got: Hibachi grilled meal for two
