When looking up things to do in my new home of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, I came across information on a local blackberry winery. For my birthday, my boyfriend surprised me with a visit to this small, family run business in the countryside near La Tigra National Park.
The Winery
Finca La Cantadora is run by a family. The property is not large, but features several dozen rows of blackberry vines. These are all picked by hand and made into the wine.
Also on the property are several tables and chairs to take in the views of the vineyard and surrounding mountains.
If wine is not really your thing, you can also pick blackberries, and buy them to take home! Enquire with the staff!
The Wine
After touring the small vineyard, we ordered a bottle of wine.
In addition to having wine available for purchase, the winery sells blackberry jam! I did not take home a bottle, but based on the taste of the wine, I am sure it is very good!
The Food
One unexpected surprise at the winery was the delicious food. I just expected them to have something small like a cheese plate (which they did). Never did I guess I would have some of the best pizza in Tegucigalpa there!
Finca La Cantadora features one flavor of pizza, the classic margarita. The pizza crust was crispy, with just the right amount of sauce. Topped with perfectly melted cheese and toppings of fresh tomatoes and basil, it was pizza heaven.
The margarita pizza came in a pizza box, which makes it easy to take home if you don't finish it. My boyfriend and I arrived hungry, and were able to finish the whole thing, between the two of us.
**Note that the winery only accepts cash for the food and wine!!
How to Get There
The only way to get to Finca La Cantadora is by car. It is located about 45 minutes from the city. Follow the road to La Tigra National Park. On the way, you will see signs pointing you in the direction of the winery. Parking is located across the road. Be aware that the winery lies up in the mountains at the end of a dirt road.
