Going to the movies has always been a favorite pastime of mine. There is something magical that happens in a movie theater when you can be completely lost in a story, another world, or even time period. However, movie tickets have only gotten more and more expensive over time. Going to a free advance movie screening is one way to save money while still enjoying a night out at the movies! Check out my list below of ways to score tickets to advance movie screenings in your area:
1. Gofobo
Registering for this site is one of your best bets to get free tickets to advance movie screenings. Each household is allowed two accounts (with a maximum of 4 tickets all together… for families, make sure to take advantage of the two account offer). Once you register, you will receive emails with exclusive details about upcoming events and redemption codes. Once you have a code, simply go to their website to enter it, print out your passes, and go! Is it also possible to sign up for sweepstakes that give out free tickets to advance movie screenings, although there might not always be a contest in your area. Another way to get redemption codes for Gofobo is on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, or through radio stations, newspapers and magazine articles.
2. advancescreenings.com
This website lists advance movie screening opportunities in cities across the country. The site lets you search by movie, city, or zip code for passes and contests that feature movie screenings. You can also sign up for email notifications so you never miss out on a screening in your area! Unlike Gofobo, there are no redemption codes needed.
3. Get Screening
This site is very similar to advancescreenings.com; search for passes by city or by movie. Most passes are given out through a random draw or on a first-come, first-serve basis.
4. Seeitfirst.net
On See It First, register to sign up for exclusive emails with six digit codes for advance movie screenings in your area. If radio stations or newspapers cannot fill up a movie screening, they will share this information with See It First, who will email out the specific code for the event. Registration is free!
5. Radio Stations
Signing up for your local radio stations newsletter will offer you the opportunity to get news about promotions like advance movie screenings and other free items right to your inbox. Of course, these stations sometimes will offer free passes to callers, but who really wants to listen all day and wait for the right time to call? Waste of time. Instead sign up for the newsletter or find out if they have a membership club. The membership clubs often give out points for trivia and other games which can be used to redeem free items, like movie passes!
6. PR Firms
Many PR Firms partner with movie theaters to coordinate advance movie screenings in order to generate excitement and create a buzz about upcoming films. Research what firms are in your area and make sure to follow them on all their social media accounts. One of the largest firms is Allied Integrated Networking. Check for them on Facebook and Twitter under the name 43KIX. They frequently share information on events as well give out Gofobo codes.
Important Tips
When attending an advance movie screening, make sure to arrive EARLY! Most of the time, theaters give away more tickets than seats available to ensure that all of the seats are taken. Because of this, seats at the theater are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, the first few rows of the theater are usually reserved for staff and/or press. To be safe, arrive at least 30 minutes before the screening time. If it is a very popular movie that many people are eager to see, like a summer blockbuster, getting there even earlier is highly suggested.
Do not under any circumstances take out your phone during the screening. Because it is an advance movie screening, theaters are very vigilant about making movie-goers aware of the ‘no-filming' policy. It is illegal to film a movie in a movie theater and you will get penalized for it. At some advance movie screenings, they actually will search your bag and ask you to check your phone outside of the theater. If you want to be safe rather thanks sorry, lock your phone up in your car before heading in.
