If you are in the Denver area and looking for a fun activity that will not break the bank, then you must check out Big Bear Ice Arena. On a recent trip, I found a deal for an ice skating session for 4 that included skate rentals and I could not resist penciling in some time for a spin around the rink.
The Rink
Bir Bear Ice Arena is located just a 20 minute drive from Downtown Denver. The rink has ice skating programs, lessons for children as well as adults, and hockey camps. However, they open up the ice to the public during Public Skate Time. The rink opens for skating in the mornings and evenings most days (Check on their website for specific public skating times). On the day we were visiting Denver, they had an evening Public Skate Time from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
We arrived around 8:00 PM and found many people had the same idea as we did. Our deal got us half off the price of admission and rentals, although they only charge $7 for admission ($5 for kids under 12) and and additional $3 if you need to rent skates. There were many families there as well as couples out enjoying a Saturday night of skating.
The rink has hockey skates as well as figure skates for rental .They also have bright neon cones out on the ice to help beginner skaters get their balance. If you get hungry, they also have a small snack shop with food and drinks available for purchase.
My friends and I all had a great time skating around the rink with each other. There were people of many different levels skating, from beginners to experts doing tricks in the middle, which was cool to see. If you love to ice skate, or are looking to get started, Big Bear Ice Arena is a great place to come in Denver!
