During a weekend getaway to Koh Lipe, I booked a last minute room at the Lipe Beach Resort. After reading good reviews online, I was glad I got a spot there. Koh Lipe is a small island with beautiful blue water and some of the nicest people I've met in Thailand. Read about my experience at the hotel below.
The Room
Because we booked last minute, I got the last possible room available at Lipe Beach Resort for the weekend: their Bamboo Bungalow. The resort has a wide range of options for any budget, and the Bamboo Bungalow is the most affordable. These bungalows are located a few rows back from the ocean, so you don't wake up and immediately walk out to an ocean view, but there were only 3 or so buildings blocking the view – so it wasn't like I was far at all.
Each of the 14 Bamboo Bungalow comes with the following:
- Double sized mattress
- Mosquito Netting
- Day bed on the porch with garden view
- Bathroom and ensuite shower (cold water only)
- Powerful fan for cooling off
- Free Wifi
The mattress is very low to the ground, but comfortable. The mosquito netting had no holes and thoroughly protected us throughout the night. The cold shower was a bit harder to stand, but after sweating in the sun, it wasn't the worst thing. The room also comes with two windows, but there are no screens so you invite the bugs inside with you if you do decide to open them. Honestly though, it was sufficient for a place to sleep and we didn't spend extra time in the room because there was so much to see and do. And the beach is so close!

The Facilities and Amenities
Lipe Beach Resort has several facilities and amenities that their guests are welcome to make use of including a restaurant, bar, and outdoor massages!
Restaurant and Bar – The Elephant Restaurant and Bar at Lipe beach Resort serves up some amazing grub. They have Thai food and some Western staples, and everything is delicious. Some of my favorites were the spring rolls, the sandwiches, and the stir-fried veggies with rice. Their drinks are also amazing. Try the ‘Thaijito' for a unique thai twist on the classic mojito.
Cabanas – The restaurant has excellent food and it is best enjoyed in one of their cabanas where you can lounge and take in the sweeping views of Koh Adang and the bluest water I have ever seen. They are popular around meal times, so keep that in mind. They even have one that is a huge swing! So fun.
Massages – There is nothing like a massage. Now imagine a massage on the beach with the sound of the waves in the background and a breeze passing by. Sound like heaven? The resort has a few masseuses who deliver some of the best massages! I had one and nearly fell asleep (no I actually did pass out, it was so divine). Prices start around 400 baht (~$7).
Equipment Rental – The resort has several kayaks for guests to rent (by the hour) as well as snorkeling gear. The coast just by the resort is an excellent place to spend a few hours snorkeling or kayaking around. Make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen!
Yoga – The resort has their own yoga instructor that help guests with their strength, flexibility while calming the mind and spirit. If interested, let the front desk know and they will arrange it for you. Nothing beats yoga on the beach.
The Beach – Picture the bluest, clearest water you can. You have just pictured the beach at Lipe Beach Resort. I couldn't believe how perfect it was. The beach is clean and relatively quiet compared to the other side of the island.
Final Verdict
The staff was incredible (they gave us all hugs when we left); the food and drinks were excellent; the beach is pristine, the water so blue, that I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else next time I visit Koh Lipe. And trust me, there will be a next time.
