Hong Kong is an amazing city spread across several islands in the South China Sea. While it is a dynamic place full of many things to see and do, accommodation can be expensive. Luckily for me, I found a great deal at Silka Hotel. Read on for a full review on my stay there!
Location
The Silka Hotel brand has a few locations around Hong Kong. The location I stayed at was located in the Tsuen Wan neighborhood, not far from an MTR stop (the Hong Kong train system). The area is a mixture of industrial and commercial business, with lots of tall apartment buildings. There isn't much to explore in the immediate area and I found it quiet when sleeping at night.
The Room
My room at the Silka Hotel was small but comfortable. With just enough room for a bed, it was not a place I spent a lot of time. But in a city like Hong Kong who wants to stay in their hotel all day! I had a Standard room, but the hotel has the option of Deluxe, Superior, Family as well as Suites. My room came with the following features:
- Double bed (some standards do have Twin beds available)
- Free wifi
- Free adapter (this was a lifesaver!)
- Rain shower
- TV with cable channels
- City view (though this was mostly the other buildings)
- Smoking as well as Non-smoking floors (I was on Non-smoking)
- Complimentary water, tea and coffee
- Electric kettle
- Safety box
- Air conditioning
- Mini fridge
- Hair dryer
Bonuses!
One very cool amenity included at the Silka Hotel, which I have never seen before, was a complimentary phone. Called Handy, this phone was free of charge and provided a great way to explore the city since I did not have an international data plan and limited access to wifi throughout the day. The phone can be used for local and international calls (to certain countries) as well as unlimited 3G data usage.
Another great amenity about the Silka Hotel was their shuttle service. Because the hotel is located a bit outside of the normal touristy area, they provide complimentary service both to the nearest train statin as well as a shuttle with several stops in the downtown area. The two shuttles operate at different times, but a detailed schedule is provided to all guests. I used the shuttle every day during my visit both to go out as well as to come back to the hotel from the nearest train stop.
Final Verdict
I enjoyed my stay at the Silka Hotel. The accommodation was nice and the room very clean and comfortable, albeit small. The only drawback is the location, but with the shuttle service, this is definitely not a major con! I also loved having a phone included with the room that I could use while out exploring! Would be a great place for those visiting the city on business.
