With the ‘Game of Thrones' craze sweeping the country, more and more people are becoming exposed to and falling in love with the knight. I have had a fascination with medieval knights, castles, and damsels in distress since I was a wee one pretending with my Barbie dolls that Sir Lancelot was coming to save Queen Guinevere from a most certain death.

I was therefore ecstatic when I saw a deal for a ticket to dinner and a show at Medieval Times. I mean who wouldn't be? It was my chance to experience what I had read so much about and watched on TV for so long.

As dictated on the website, I arrived an hour before the show was scheduled. This gave me plenty of time to a) take a picture with the Princess, b) get assigned to a knight who I would be cheering for, c) get a specialty cocktail in a goblet (a goblet!), d) see the horses the knights would ride later in the show, and e) see the ‘knighting' of some lucky ducks by the King.

The Feast

Finally the Lord Chancellor announce that it was time came to go into the banquet hall where we would enjoy His Majesty's Royal Feast and the Tournament. We had been assigned The Yellow Knight and sat in his section with other members of his fan club. A serving ‘wench' (hey I gotta use the correct vocabulary) came to introduce herself as our waitress for the evening. The feast was four courses and served without utensils, just as it would have been for the Lords and Ladies of old. His Majesty had chosen to serve garlic bread, tomato bisque soup (had to sipped like a drink – no spoon!), oven roasted chicken, spare rib, herb roasted potato, and dessert was an apple filled pastry. All of it was delicious and incredibly filling. The experience of eating with no utensils definitely made it more authentic.

The Tournament

The tournament consisted of six knights who had come to prove themselves as the best of the best. As previously mentioned, I was rooting for The Yellow Knight, aka Don Eduardo del Rey, the champion from Navarre. He was super dreamy with long flowing hair and a killer smile! The knights  had to complete several skill challenges, included jousting, to determine who would be named Champion. After each, the winning knight would receive flowers from the Princess to be tossed as token to lucky ladies in the crowd. Do I even have to say that I received the first flower of the night? You already know I did.

In between different challenges, The Royal Falconer performed as well as The Master of Horse. Both highlighted the skills of the beautiful animals used during the show.

The Yellow Knight

Medieval Times was an action-packed show full of exciting challenges, many weapons, and brave knights that I think even Sansa Stark would find epic.
