There is nothing like seeing one of your favorite artists perform live at a concert. The energy in the air and the music coursing through you, as you belt the words out to the songs, is an electric feeling that really can't be replicated.
I had the chance to see Wiz Khalifa this summer at his amazing Under the Influence of Music 2014 tour. Wiz brought along other notable musical acts such as Mack Wilds (best known for his single ‘Own It' and performance on the HBO hit The Wire), Rich Homie Quan (‘Type of Way'), IAMSU! (‘Beat the Pussy Up'), Sage the Gemini (‘Gas Pedal,' ‘Red Nose'), and Ty Dolla $ign (‘Paranoid'). The openers were entertaining and energetic, providing a great prequel to the headliners of the night: Jeezy and, of course, Wiz himself.
Jeezy stepped out in front of giant illuminated letters spelling out his name and rapped a crowd-pleasing sequence of his thug motivation hits. As expected, he got the crowd rocking and even brought Rich Homie Quan back out to perform ‘My Nigga.' In a nod to Chicago, he also invited the young emerging rapper Lil Durk to take the stage and perform ‘This Ain't What You Want,' which the audience loved.
Finally, Wiz appeared and absolutely killed it. His fans could not get enough – including a few who actually made their way onto the stage before being removed by security. Wiz performed a few of his classics, while smoking a RAW joint and dancing around in his signature skinny jeans. He also gave fans his interpretation of “Trap Wiz” with songs from his latest mixtape '28 Grams.' At one point, he disappeared only to reappear behind the lower sections and in front of the lawn to sing ‘No Limit,' to his fans delight. He ended the night with a heart pounding rendition of ‘We Dem Boyz' before stage diving into the pit.
I Spent: $36.50 $20
I Got: To see Wiz Khalifa perform!
