I am a huge fan of wine, so I always jump at the chance to enjoy the adult beverage for a great price. When I spotted a deal online for a wine tasting at BeviAmo (a wine bar in West Town, Chicago), I quickly scooped it up thinking it would make a romantic date night with my boyfriend.
The Wine Tasting
Turns out, I was right. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation (which must be made in advance) and were told by the bartender to choose any seat we wanted. We settled in comfortable lounge chairs and browsed the wine menu he brought over. Our deal included two red, two white, and one bubbly as well as complimentary snacks. Our wine tasting consisted of the following:
- Bubbly: Bricco rubella moscato, Piedmont, Italy 2012
- White #1: Stella Pinot Grigio, Umbria, Italy 2012
- White #2: Montenegro Sauvignon Blanc (off menu)
- Red #1: Ventisquero Reserva Pinot Noir, Casablana, Chile 2011
- Red # 2: Aletta Garnacha, Campo de Borja, Spain 2011
Each of the wines the bartender chose for us was delicious. My favorite white wine was the Sauvignon Blanc which had hints of melon and honey dew. My favorite red wine was the Chilean Pinot Noir which was full bodied and had hints of fruit and vanilla. Overall, the bartender made great choices on wines for us to try, though I do wish we could have chosen some of our own.
Drinks
In addition to a large wine selection, BeviAmo also offers cocktails expertly mixed by their bartenders. After finishing our wine tasting, I wanted to try one of their cocktails. The Dark and Stormy, made from Gosling's Black Seal Rum, Ginger Beer, Simple Syrup, and freshly squeezed lime caught my eye. The bartender recommended it as well, saying it is one of their most popular drinks. The cocktail came in a cool copper mug and was absolutely delicious. (Side note: Do not try to steal their mugs, as they will charge you $100, according to their menu. Perhaps the mugs are as popular as the drink).
The Vibe
BeviAmo is a very romantic spot for a date night. The dim lighting and the flickering candles add to the ambiance. While we enjoyed our wine, several couples arrived for wine tastings. It also would make a great place for a night out with friends.
